Serendipity

$4,000

Update:  Sassy is now available again - she has been loved on by a 10 yr old beginner rider, but they aren't sure if it is a perfect match.  Sassy is now available for sale from her home in North Carolina - she is best suited for an advanced beginner or above because she is still green and she can have some go to her.  Could be perfect endurance horse because she is so smooth and has good energy.

Sassy is an EXCELLENT A circuit prospect - this is her GORGEOUS form over a 3' oxer.

Sassy has been learning to jump recently.  I try to take our lessons slow and methodically, so that she fully understands what is being asked of her.  I decided to give her some experience from the ground, since that always seems to help your training once you are up with them.   We started with itty-bitty crossrails, that she just trotted over, but after we raised them a little, we finally got her to jump (below)

Even with the small fences, Sassy has a beautiful bascule, bringing her knees up and head down - a winning combination for the Hunter circuit.  As she got comfortable with the crossrails, we made the obstacles a little more challenging - we turned them into verticals. Once comfortable there, we raised the verticals (below)

You can see the improvement in her choice - she moves to the middle of the fence to negotiate it.  And she still has beautiful form.  The fences above are set at 2'3".  Sassy was showing great promise, so we again raised the ante - we turned her vertical into an oxer (below).  She never said no to a single adjustment, she just cantered right up and sailed over with grace and scope that will win.

Having mastered a small oxer, we moved on to bigger oxers. . . .

. . . .And we finished up over a 3' oxer (below and at top of page).

Sassy's willingness and boldness show that she will be an honest jumper.  Her scope, grace, and bascule show that she will win.  This is a pony that is talented enough to do the A circuit, and bold and willing enough to do Pony Club three phase events.  She is for the serious young rider or adult amateur that wants to compete and win.

Serendipity aka "Sassy" is a 6 year old pony mare that is top of the line large.  Sassy is a liver chestnut with a large body that is well proportioned.  She has a compact back and a well set neck, both of which will help her in her over fences training.

Her natural carriage lends itself to looking round, and she moves like a big horse stuck in a pony body.  She is a VERY nice mover, with large ground covering strides (this will help you get your strides against the bigger horses), and she is EXTREMELY comfortable to ride.  When I first trotted her I almost didn't know how to post to a trot that was so smooth!

Sassy has a great brain, and is beyond easy going on the ground.  I have never seen this mare spook, even out in the horse - eating woods of our farm.  I have ridden her walk/trot bareback with a halter, and she could care less.

She hacks out in the pasture, walks through water, and doesn't get hot or spooky.  I had her in the pasture and the herd galloped up behind us - most horses would take of for the hills with their buddies.  Not Sassy, she didn't even quicken her step.

Sassy handles new and unusual circumstances like she was still laying in her own stall at home.  Everywhere I have taken her she has never so much as given a snort, whinny, or acted excited in any way.  She just doesn't care about anything!  It is nice to have consistency wherever you go - to a show, on the trails, or at home.

Sassy stands for the vet, farrier, loads, clips, bathes, etc. etc.  She has outstanding feet and is an easy keeper.

Sassy is currently walk, trot, cantering in the arena quietly.  She is green, but willing.  If you are looking for a pony that will take you places, this is the one.  She is in training for Hunters, but she would also excel at dressage, and she loves to trail ride.  She has the potential to be an "A" Large Pony Hunter.

Sassy is shaping up to be the absolute most perfect child's/small adult pony.

 UPDATES!!!

*** Update 8/2/06 *** Sassy has been on her very first official trail ride - she was more than happy to be the lead horse, didn't mind being the follow horse, rode up and down hills, over logs and creeks, all while ON THE BUCKLE.  She never once spooked, even when the other horse in attendance spooked, she almost looked at him as if to roll her eyes and say, "Dude, it's just a tree!"  Before we went out on the trails, she worked well in a new place after being off of the trailer for five minutes.  A 100% complete champ!  Pictures below

Sassy Post trail ride (above left) & some of the obstacles we faced (above right).

More obstacles that we faced (above left) & our trail buddy (above right).

***Update 8/23/06***  Sassy is now jumping!  A potential buyer came out and wanted to "try" Sassy over some fences.  Sassy willingly went over some small crossrails and some small verticals at both the trot and canter & she is VERY cute over fences!  She is still green, but she definitely tries to please!

***Update 9/6/06***  Sassy has now completed her SECOND trail ride in Dawson Forrest (a different trail than before).  She was lead for most of the trip, of course, and she even jumped a fallen log that was about 2'!!  Sassy would make the PERFECT event, pony club, or hunter pony, and she has the talent to do all three.
